Council 13 Practice SWAP Session
The ideas were coming fast and furious as Council 13 met during Seventh Council to practice a SWAP session together as a council. The notes may not all be in complete sentences, but there are lots of great ideas that came out of just our 24-minute practice session. Enjoy!
PEP RALLIES
Homecoming bang sticks. These are banned by CIF, but you can still use them at rallies.
Games and prize giveaways at dances and at rallies
Sell spirit shirts at the beginning of year
Buy a shirt cannon, or make a water balloon launcher out of surgical tubing and a dog dish
Black light rally – Using UV lights in your gym
Completely black out your gym; rent black lights from your DJ or DJ may let you borrow them for free
Use Purex laundry detergent to make stuff glow, use it to make hand prints on your clothing or put a drop inside clear balloons and you will have glowing orbs. The detergent is virtually invisible in the regular light, but glows cool!
Senior Olympics – Lion King themed Olympics, classes compete
Nickelodeon themed rally – made slime for the rally! Obstacle course, last part was to throw slime at the class president (only losing classes get their president slimed)
How to make slime? Little kid wading pools, slime tank with PVC frame and clear
Slime recipe: Water flour and green food coloring
STAR testing rally: goal was 660. Brought pro-wrestler to school to challenge assistant principal—cool to get staff members involved in rallies!
Senior class needs money for Prom – “Pies for Prom” donates money to pie a certain teacher. Dollar amounts get higher for the teachers that students really want to get pied in the face. Variation on this: kiss a cow.
FFA – some schools in
HOMECOMING
We had 50th anniversary of our school. We had an alumni parade. Alumni held signs and marched in pre-game parade. Dinner for alumni before event. Confetti cannons near conclusion of national anthem
White Dove Release for Homecoming or for Graduation
What do we do for a brand new school for a homecoming?
We didn’t have alumni yet as a new school, so we called it “Upcoming”
Do it during basketball season
We have a week full of events
Bonfire night, turned into a karaoke night, ice cream, karaoke, parade
Parade in the middle of town one night
Turn homecoming week into a spirit week, coed game, have a dance-off
We have a whole week, like a spirit week with the big finish on Friday: rally, parade, and football game and then the dance is the next night
Reserve a section of the bleachers at your homecoming game for alumni
Theme for parade was decades, and parade and dance was themed for the different decades
Huge outdoor pep rally on the football field
Have football players’ moms come onto the field to kiss players on cheek; players then had to guess which girl
